Ghana to Leverage Diplomatic Channels for Black Stars Support at 2026 World Cup – Ablakwa

The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has announced that the Government of Ghana will utilize its diplomatic missions in the United States and Canada to mobilize substantial fan support for the Black Stars during the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The pledge follows Ghana’s placement in Group L alongside England, Panama, and Croatia — a grouping widely regarded as one of the most challenging in the expanded 48-team tournament.

In a statement issued via the social media platform X on Saturday, December 6, 2025, Mr. Ablakwa expressed full confidence in the national team while emphasizing the role of diplomacy in ensuring robust representation of Ghanaian supporters at matches across North America.

“We have unflinching confidence in our heroic Black Stars to make us proud despite having been drawn in a competitive group,” the Minister stated. “Now, it is our duty to leverage cordial diplomatic alliances to ensure a good number of Ghanaian soccer fans get the opportunity to zestfully support the team in the US and Canada, as our supporters are globally renowned for. Ghana shall be unstoppable! We shall succeed — for God and Country.”

Diplomatic Mobilization Underway

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has initiated coordination with Ghana’s embassies and high commissions in the host nations to:

  • Expedite visa processing for traveling supporters
  • Collaborate with airlines and travel agencies on affordable group packages
  • Secure match ticket allocations through official FIFA channels

This strategy aims to recreate the vibrant Ghanaian fan presence that garnered international acclaim during previous World Cup campaigns.
