Germany Thrash Curaçao 7-1 in Dominant World Cup Opener

Germany delivered a commanding performance to secure a convincing 7-1 victory over Curaçao in their Group E opener at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, despite witnessing a landmark moment for their Caribbean opponents.

Julian Nagelsmann’s side took the lead after just five minutes through Felix Nmecha. However, Curaçao responded in unforgettable fashion when Livano Comenencia’s effort took a deflection and found the net, registering the nation’s first-ever goal at a FIFA World Cup finals.

The historic strike sparked wild celebrations among Curaçao supporters, while Germany goalkeeper Manuel Neuer was left frustrated after conceding. Nevertheless, the veteran shot-stopper achieved a milestone of his own, becoming the oldest player ever to represent Germany at a World Cup at the age of 40.

Germany quickly regained control of the contest. Nico Schlotterbeck restored the Europeans’ advantage before Kai Havertz converted from the penalty spot on the stroke of half-time to extend the lead.

Any hopes of a Curaçao comeback disappeared shortly after the restart as Jamal Musiala added a fourth goal. Nathaniel Brown then volleyed home to further underline Germany’s superiority.

The floodgates opened in the closing stages, with substitute Deniz Undav getting on the scoresheet before Havertz completed his brace as Curaçao struggled to contain the relentless German attack.

The emphatic result gives Germany a strong start to their Group E campaign ahead of a potentially tougher test against the Ivory Coast in Toronto on June 20, while Curaçao will take pride in a historic first World Cup goal despite the heavy defeat.
