Former President Kufuor Visits Mahama Family to Offer Condolences Amid National Mourning

Former President John Agyekum Kufuor paid a heartfelt visit to President John Dramani Mahama and First Lady Lordina Mahama at their residence on Friday morning, demonstrating a powerful gesture of solidarity and statesmanship.
The visit, which took place at approximately 10:00 AM local time, was aimed at expressing condolences and offering support to the Mahama family and the nation during the ongoing period of national mourning following the tragic helicopter crash on August 6, 2025.
The crash in Adansi Akrofuom, Ashanti Region, claimed the lives of eight individuals, including Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Environment Minister Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, and other senior officials and military personnel. As Ghana observes a three-day mourning period ending Saturday, August 9, Kufuor’s visit underscored a rare moment of unity across political divides, reflecting his respect for the current administration’s leadership during this challenging time.
Accompanied by a small delegation, the former president spent over an hour with the Mahamas, engaging in private discussions. A statement from the presidency later confirmed that Kufuor extended his sympathies to the bereaved families and praised the government’s efforts to honor the victims with a state funeral scheduled for August 15 at Black Star Square. The visit has been widely praised on social media, with many Ghanaians highlighting it as a model of national unity amid grief.
