John Dumelo Calls for Sensitivity in Commentary on Helicopter Crash Out of Respect for Bereaved Families

Member of Parliament for Ayawaso West Wuogon, John Dumelo, has appealed to the public to exercise caution and sensitivity in their commentary surrounding the recent military helicopter crash, emphasizing respect for the families mourning their loss.
The call comes as Ghana continues to grieve the deaths of eight individuals, including two ministers, in the tragic incident on August 6, 2025, in Adansi Akrofuom, Ashanti Region.
In a statement issued late Thursday, Dumelo urged citizens to refrain from speculative or insensitive remarks, noting the emotional toll on the bereaved. “Let us honor the memory of the fallen—Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Environment Minister Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, and the others—by being mindful of our words during this difficult time,” he said. The crash, which involved a Ghana Air Force Z-9 helicopter en route to Obuasi, also claimed the lives of Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator Alhaji Muniru Mohammed, NDC Vice Chairman Dr. Samuel Sarpong, former Parliamentary Candidate Samuel Aboagye, and crew members Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Manin Twum-Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.
With the nation observing a three-day mourning period ending Saturday, August 9, and preparations underway for a state funeral on August 15 at Black Star Square, Dumelo’s plea aligns with President John Mahama’s earlier call for unity and restraint. As investigations into the crash continue, the MP’s message underscores the need for collective empathy amid the ongoing national tragedy.
