Former MASLOC CEO Sedina Tamakloe Extradited to Ghana

Former Chief Executive Officer of the Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC), Sedina Tamakloe Attionu, has been extradited to Ghana from the United States to begin serving a 10-year prison sentence imposed by the Accra High Court.

She arrived at the Accra International Airport on Tuesday, June 9, aboard United Airlines flight UA 996 at approximately 9:01 a.m., after departing Washington Dulles International Airport at 11:44 GMT.

Upon arrival, she was received by security personnel and taken into custody. She is currently undergoing debriefing and medical screening as part of standard procedures before being transferred to the Ghana Prisons Service to begin her sentence.

Her extradition follows a lengthy process initiated by the Government of Ghana after she failed to return to the country following a medical trip to the United States in 2021.

In 2024, the Accra High Court convicted Sedina Attionu in absentia and sentenced her to 10 years imprisonment for multiple offences, including causing financial loss to the state and stealing. The court found that her actions during her tenure as MASLOC CEO between 2013 and 2016 resulted in a financial loss of nearly GH¢90 million.

She was initially granted permission to travel abroad for medical treatment but failed to return to Ghana to continue her trial, leading the court to proceed in her absence.

Following her conviction, Ghanaian authorities intensified efforts to secure her return, culminating in a formal extradition request to the United States in 2025. A US District Court in Nevada later approved the request after reviewing supporting legal documents submitted by Ghanaian authorities.

Her return is being described as a significant development in one of Ghana’s high-profile corruption-related cases and a demonstration of international cooperation in law enforcement.

Authorities are expected to complete remaining administrative procedures before her transfer to prison to begin serving her sentence.
