Former IGP Paul Tawiah Quaye Reportedly Dead After Illness
Former Inspector General of Police, Paul Tawiah Quaye, has reportedly passed away after a period of illness, according to sources within senior police circles.
Details surrounding his death remain limited, and official confirmation from his family is still pending. However, tributes have already begun pouring in for the respected former police chief, who is remembered for his dedication to service and leadership within the Ghana Police Service.
Mr Quaye was appointed IGP in 2009 by the late President John Evans Atta Mills and served until his retirement in 2013. During his tenure, he was noted for his firm stance on discipline and his efforts to modernise the police service.
He introduced several reforms aimed at improving professionalism and restoring public confidence in law enforcement, earning admiration from both colleagues and the general public. Many described him as a “gentle giant,” known for his calm demeanour and decisive leadership style.
After decades of service, he retired in 2013, leaving behind a legacy of commitment to strengthening policing standards in Ghana.
