Firefighters Contain Commercial Blaze at Tadisco Down, Takoradi

Firefighters from the Sekondi Metro Fire Station of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) have successfully brought a major commercial fire outbreak under control at Tadisco Down in Takoradi, preventing what could have resulted in extensive losses.

The incident occurred on Monday, December 22, 2025, when a fire broke out in an area dominated by container shops. Despite experiencing a mechanical fault with the fire tender while en route to the scene, the firefighters managed to arrive promptly and immediately began firefighting operations.

By the time the crew reached the location, the fire had spread from an initial container to several others housing provision shops, a cold store, and a sewing centre. Through swift and strategic intervention, the firefighters confined the blaze to ten containers, preventing it from spreading to nearby structures.

The fire was brought under control within minutes and completely extinguished shortly after midnight. No injuries or fatalities were recorded during the incident.

In the course of the operation, six containers and a chop bar were successfully salvaged, significantly reducing the extent of damage.

Preliminary assessments indicate that the fire may have been caused by an explosion involving a prepaid electricity meter, although investigations are still ongoing to determine the exact cause.

The Ghana National Fire Service has reaffirmed its commitment to rapid emergency response and public safety, while urging the public to ensure proper electrical installations to help prevent fire outbreaks.
