Fire Tender Somersaults En Route to Blaze at Buipe Lorry Station

A fire tender from the Central Gonja District of the Ghana National Fire Service was involved in a serious accident while rushing to a fire outbreak at the Buipe lorry station on January 12, 2026.
Eyewitnesses reported that the fire crew was responding to a blaze at a fuel joint when the tender somersaulted just a few metres from the scene.
The incident left residents helpless as they watched the fire continue to burn unchecked. With support from Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs), community members quickly rushed to the overturned vehicle and rescued the fire officers trapped inside.
Five crew members sustained injuries and were immediately rushed to the Buipe District Government Hospital for medical treatment.
The fire tender has been taken out of service pending a full assessment, while the Ghana National Fire Service has launched an investigation into the cause of the accident.
The incident highlights the risks faced by emergency responders and the urgent need for improved road safety and vehicle maintenance in the region. Authorities are yet to provide an update on the condition of the injured firefighters or the status of the fire outbreak.
