Residents and emergency responders made frantic efforts to bring a fire outbreak at the family house of the late Mohammed Murtala under control.
A video circulating on social media showed fire officers working to douse the blaze at the house in Tamale.
The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.
The late Murtala, former Minister for Environment, Science and Technology, was among seven others who died in a helicopter crash on August 6, 2025, in the Adansi area of the Ashanti Region.
The seven others were Dr Edward Kofi Omane Boamah, Minister for Defence; Alhaji Limuna Muniru Mohammed, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator; Dr Samuel Sarpong, National Vice Chairman of the ruling NDC; Mr Samuel Aboagye, former NDC Parliamentary Candidate for Obuasi East; Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala; Flight Officer Manaen Twum Ampadu; and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.
An eyewitness remarked that the incident was particularly heartbreaking as it came almost exactly a year after the tragic military helicopter crash that claimed the lives of Hon Mohammed Murtala and seven other officials.
Properties worth thousands of cedis were reportedly destroyed by the fire. Nine out of 17 rooms were affected.
Personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service have since brought the fire under control.
