Final Funeral Rites of Late Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah Held in Koforidua

The final funeral rites for the late former Minister of Defence, Dr. Edward Kofi Omane Boamah, were held on Saturday at Jackson’s Park in Koforidua, the Eastern Regional capital.

First Lady Lordina Mahama led a high-level government delegation, joined by Ministers of State, Members of Parliament, leadership of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), chiefs, traditional leaders, and hundreds of mourners from across the country to pay their last respects.

Dr. Omane Boamah, a medical doctor and dedicated public servant, tragically died on August 6, 2025, in a military helicopter crash that claimed the lives of eight individuals, including other senior officials and Ghana Air Force crew members.

Mourners extolled his virtues, describing him as a man of peace, intelligence, wisdom, integrity, and humility. Isaac Baah Forson remarked, “He is a man of peace, a man of intelligent and a man of wisdom. Ghana, we have lost a great man.”

Governance Analyst Prof. Enoch Opoku Antwi highlighted his humble beginnings and commitment to service: “He served this country with everything in him… He comes from a humble background, he never gave up, he committed himself into learning… His track record is fighting for the youth, even the grassroot of the NDC.”

Catholic Priest Rev. Fr. Derrick Mawuli from the Koforidua Diocese added, “He led an exemplary life as a Catholic, we have lost a good man. Ghana has lost someone of his caliber, but his legacy lives on.”

A sudden rainstorm disrupted the proceedings midway, which some attendees interpreted as a poignant farewell.

The ceremony underscored Dr. Omane Boamah’s lasting contributions to Ghana’s public service, politics, and development.
