Fatal Domestic Fire at Mempeasem Claims One Life in Assin Foso

A tragic domestic fire outbreak at Mempeasem near the Railway Station Quarters in the Central Region claimed the life of a man in his thirties early Thursday, January 8, 2026.
According to a press release from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) dated January 9, the blaze—reported at 0632 hours—involved a kitchen and storeroom, spreading to a Renault Duster salon car and a wooden kiosk.
The victim, identified as Kwabena Effutu, was burnt to death. Firefighters from the Anyinam Station responded swiftly, extinguishing the fire by 0640 hours and salvaging the kitchen contents and vehicle from total destruction.
The badly charred body was handed over to police for conveyance to St. Francis Xavier Morgue, with investigations ongoing to determine the cause.
In a separate incident on the same day, a 44-year-old taxi driver, Frank Essilfie Ebea, died after falling from a storey building at the community center in Abuesi, Shama District.
Assembly Member Enock Arthur, who received the distressing report early morning, found the man in a pool of blood upon arrival.
Ebea, a local resident, was known for daily exercises on the staircase of the under-construction community center before work. The staircase is lined with tires for safety, but Arthur suspects the slippery surface may have contributed to the fatal fall.
The deceased leaves behind one child but no wife. Police have launched investigations, and the body has been deposited at St. Edward’s Mortuary.
In response, Assembly Member Arthur has implemented immediate safety measures to protect community members using the facility.
