Sam George to Hold Press Briefing on DStv Price Cut Dispute Today

Minister for Communications, Digital Technology and Innovation Samuel Nartey George is set to address the media on Monday, September 29, 2025, regarding the ongoing standoff with MultiChoice Ghana, operators of DStv, over subscription fee reductions.

The briefing will focus on the findings of a stakeholder committee he directed the National Communications Authority (NCA) to form, aimed at resolving the contentious issue.

The committee, which began its work on September 8, 2025, was tasked with reviewing DStv’s pricing structure in Ghana, proposing commercially viable solutions to address consumer complaints, and developing a roadmap to combat cross-border piracy of decoders and services from Nigeria.bfede6 George granted the group a one-week extension last week, pushing its final report deadline to today.

The dispute escalated earlier this year when George demanded a 30% price cut, citing the depreciating cedi and high costs for Ghanaians, backed by daily GH¢10,000 fines and threats of license suspension starting August 7, 2025.

MultiChoice has resisted, denying any agreement on reductions and emphasizing ongoing talks for a balanced solution that sustains service viability.

George has accused the company of covert lobbying to evade the cuts and highlighted piracy issues, noting that 40-45% of DStv devices in Ghana are smuggled from Nigeria.041d77 Subscribers remain hopeful the briefing will bring relief through lower fees.
