Family of Gilda Nortey Demands Justice After Alleged Stabbing by Husband Valentino Nortey in US

The family of Gilda Nortey, wife of former New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate for Klottey Korle, Valentino Nii Noi Nortey, is calling for full justice after she was allegedly stabbed multiple times during a domestic confrontation in the United States.
According to the family, the incident was triggered by Gilda’s threats to file for divorce amid ongoing marital issues.
David Gyapanin, an uncle of the victim, told Accra-based Citi News that the attack left the family deeply shaken but resolute in seeking accountability.
“They had a little argument, and my niece said she may file for divorce if things continue that way. My niece said Valentino threatened to either kill himself or kill her. He stabbed her three times. She pleaded with him to take her to the hospital. He agreed on condition that she would not mention his name,” he recounted.
Mr. Gyapanin added that Gilda managed to escape the situation: “Fortunately, she had the car key and drove herself to the hospital where she works. She’s getting better. As a family, we want nothing less than justice.”
He stressed that the family expects U.S. authorities to enforce the law fully: “It happened in the States, and we want to believe that the laws there will be applied fully. You can’t marry someone’s daughter and, just because she wants to end the marriage, decide to end her life. If justice isn’t served in the U.S., we will pursue it in Ghana.”
Police in Lower Paxton Township confirmed the incident occurred around 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 17, 2026, at a residence along Mayfair Drive in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.
The victim was transported to hospital by first responders and is currently in stable condition. Authorities emphasised that the situation was isolated and posed no danger to the wider community.
Valentino Nortey, 41, of Harrisburg, has been charged with attempted homicide, possession of an instrument of crime with intent to use, and tampering with or fabricating physical evidence.
Court records show he was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge David Judy, who denied him bail. He is currently being held at Dauphin County Prison.
A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for January 26, 2026.
The case has drawn significant attention in Ghana due to Nortey’s political background and his status as a former NPP parliamentary aspirant. No official statement has been issued by the NPP or Nortey’s representatives as investigations continue.
