Police Seize Over 1,000 Boxes of Tramadol, Arrest Six in Nalerigu Drug Bust

The North East Regional Police Command, in collaboration with the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC), intercepted 1,195 boxes of Tramadol Hydrochloride 120mg (“Red”) and arrested six suspects in Gbintri near Nalerigu on September 18, 2025, in a major crackdown on illegal drug trafficking.

The operation targeted two trucks, registered GR 1712-16 and AW 4417-14, loaded in Sankase, Republic of Togo, and headed for Gbintri. A thorough search revealed the tramadol concealed among other goods in one truck (GR 1712-16). The suspects—Alhassan Braimah, Yakubu Muntaka, Abdulai Shakur, Mumuni Iddrisu, Mumuni Yakubu, and Moses Ayorik—were apprehended and are in custody assisting with investigations.

During interrogation, the suspects admitted the consignment was destined for Moses Ayorik, who was to facilitate its delivery to another individual in Gushegu. The seized drugs are secured as evidence, and authorities are working to dismantle the broader trafficking network.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Robert Anabiik Anmain, in a statement, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to curbing illegal drug trade and ensuring public safety. The public is urged to report suspicious activities to support these efforts.

This bust follows recent NACOC operations, including arrests in Tamale and at Kotoka International Airport, signaling intensified efforts against drug trafficking in Ghana.
