Family Mourns Berekum Chelsea Star Dominic Frimpong After Fatal Robbery Attack

Grief has engulfed the family of Dominic Frimpong following the tragic death of the 20-year-old Berekum Chelsea forward in a brutal armed robbery attack.

Frimpong was among players and officials returning from a Ghana Premier League fixture against FC Samartex 1996 in Samreboi when the team bus was ambushed along the Ahyiresu–Kwame Dwumor Sreso road on Sunday night.

According to reports, armed robbers blocked the road before opening fire on the vehicle, forcing passengers to flee into nearby bushes in a desperate attempt to escape.

Amid the chaos, Frimpong sustained a gunshot wound to the head. He was rushed to Bibiani Government Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

In an emotional tribute, his mother described him as the backbone of the family and their main provider.

“He means everything to me. He was my firstborn, and we did almost everything together, including making decisions. He is very respectful and avoids conflict… he always listens whenever I advise him,” she said.

Frimpong had joined Berekum Chelsea on loan from Aduana Stars in January and had made 13 appearances in the Ghana Premier League this season, scoring two goals.

His death has sent shockwaves through Ghana’s football community, reigniting concerns about the safety of clubs travelling for domestic matches.

The Ghana Football Association is expected to review security arrangements for team travel in the wake of the tragedy.
