England Edge Mexico 3-2 to Reach World Cup Quarter-Finals

England produced a resilient display to defeat co-hosts Mexico 3-2 and book their place in the quarter-finals of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, despite playing more than half of the second period with 10 men.
Midfielder Jude Bellingham starred for the Three Lions, scoring twice in quick succession in the first half to put England in command. Mexico responded before the break when Julián Quiñones capitalised on a defensive error to reduce the deficit.
England’s task became even more difficult nine minutes into the second half after defender Jarell Quansah was shown a red card for a dangerous challenge on Jesús Gallardo.
Despite being a man down, England restored their two-goal advantage on the hour mark when captain Harry Kane converted a penalty after Anthony Gordon was brought down inside the box by goalkeeper Raúl Rangel.
Mexico refused to give up and pulled another goal back when Raúl Jiménez scored from the penalty spot after Kane was penalised for a foul in the area. The hosts piled on the pressure during the closing stages, but England defended resolutely to preserve their narrow lead.
The victory sends England into the quarter-finals, where they will face Norway national football team as they continue their quest for a first major international title in six decades.
