Energy Minister Assures Ghanaians as Power Supply Improves

The Minister for Energy and Green Transition, John Abdulai Jinapor, has assured Ghanaians that government is taking decisive steps to resolve the recent power outages affecting parts of the country.

Addressing a press conference in Accra, the Minister acknowledged the inconvenience caused by the disruptions and expressed empathy with citizens, stressing that restoring stable electricity remains a top priority.

“I deeply empathize with you… we never saw it coming, we never anticipated, but we will rise above this,” he stated.

Dr Jinapor revealed that progress has already been made at the Akosombo Dam, where two generation units have been restored, adding about 280 megawatts (MW) to the national grid.

He further disclosed that:

A third unit, expected to add 140MW, is currently being installed

All six units are projected to be fully operational by the end of the week

Despite the setback caused by the earlier disruption at Akosombo, the Minister noted that other power plants across the country remain operational, although the temporary loss created a significant supply gap.

He reaffirmed government’s commitment to stabilising the electricity sector and ensuring reliable power for households, businesses, and critical services nationwide.

The update comes amid growing public concern over erratic power supply, with authorities working urgently to restore full capacity and prevent further outages.
