EC Staffer Joseph Blankson Adumadzie Reveals Interdiction Over BVD Scandal Amid Petition Against Jean Mensa

Joseph Blankson Adumadzie, the Electoral Commission (EC) staff member who petitioned President John Dramani Mahama to remove EC Chairperson Jean Adukwei Mensa and her two deputies over alleged misconduct, has disclosed that he has been under interdiction for over a year due to a controversy involving old Biometric Verification Devices (BVDs).

Speaking on Citi Eyewitness News Monday, Mr Adumadzie, who invoked Article 146 of the 1992 Constitution in his 12-count petition citing cronyism, abuse of office, and incompetence, clarified that his employment woes did not motivate his whistleblowing.

“For a while now I don’t go to work. I have not resigned, I have not been sacked. I am on an interdiction. It’s a whole lot,” he said, attributing the suspension to baseless accusations that he was linked to discarded BVDs found in a refuse dump.

“They were saying things that were not true about me… Yes, the old machines, but they are not with me and it is not even true. That is the whole thing,” Adumadzie insisted.

He revealed that the EC sued him over the matter but failed to substantiate the claims in court, leading to his victory after a year-long legal battle. “They sued me and couldn’t prove anything. And for one year I won the case, and I have sued them,” he added.

Adumadzie emphasised that his petition against the EC leadership stems from deeper institutional concerns, not personal vendetta or his interdiction status. “My decision was prompted by broader concerns over how the Commission was being run,” he stated, underscoring the need for accountability to preserve the EC’s credibility ahead of future elections.

The revelation has intensified scrutiny on the EC’s internal governance, with civil society groups calling for transparency in handling staff disputes and leadership accountability.

Neither the EC nor the Presidency has responded to the latest developments.
