A driver has been fined by the Madina District Magistrate Court after discharging a large quantity of concrete onto the Madina-Adenta Highway, creating a hazard and obstructing other road users.
The driver, Solomon Tawiah, was convicted after pleading guilty to three charges under the Road Traffic Regulations, 2012 (L.I. 2519).
The incident involved a Mercedes-Benz concrete mixer truck belonging to Betonsa Ghana Limited and occurred on Saturday, September 5, 2026, about 100 metres from the Zongo Junction Traffic Light on the Madina-Adenta Highway.
According to the Ghana Police Service, the concrete mixer, with registration number GE 4891-14, discharged a sizeable quantity of concrete onto the main highway before leaving the scene.
Police Trace Driver
The Madina Divisional Police Command, through its Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD), commenced investigations after receiving information about the incident.
Police officers subsequently traced the vehicle to the premises of Betonsa Ghana Limited at Spintex, where they engaged the company’s Transport Manager.
On Tuesday, September 8, the Transport Manager brought Tawiah to the police, after which he was charged with offences including placing construction materials and equipment on the road in a manner that caused danger to road users.
He was also charged with obstruction of an intersection or pedestrian crossing.
Tawiah was subsequently arraigned before the Madina District Magistrate Court, where he pleaded guilty to all three charges.
Court Imposes Consecutive Fines
The court imposed a fine of 25 penalty units on each count, with the sentences to run consecutively.
Tawiah has since paid the fines.
The Madina Divisional Police Command commended members of the public whose information assisted the police in responding to the incident and tracing the driver.
The Command also cautioned drivers and transport operators to exercise greater care when using public roads.
It stressed that actions that create hazards or obstruct traffic can have serious consequences for the safety of other road users.
