Police Retrieve 1,400 Rounds of Ammunition Hidden in Mechanic Workshop in Bolgatanga

Police in have retrieved 1,400 rounds of ammunition from a mechanic workshop near the in following a report by a local auto mechanic.
According to the Upper East Regional Police Command, the discovery was made on May 9, 2026, after the mechanic alerted authorities that his apprentice had spotted suspicious items while sweeping the workshop premises.
A police team was immediately dispatched to the scene, where officers uncovered two sealed packets hidden inside fertilizer sacks in a hen coop.
The packets reportedly contained 700 rounds each of 7.62×39mm ammunition, bringing the total number retrieved to 1,400 rounds.
The ammunition has since been taken into police custody for evidential purposes as investigations continue.
Police say efforts are underway to trace the source of the ammunition and identify those responsible for concealing it at the workshop
