Daddy Lumba’s Family Fires Back at First Wife: “Your Name in Brochure Is a Favour, Not a Right”

The Fosuh Royal Family has hit back at Akosua Serwaa Fosuh, Daddy Lumba’s legally wedded wife, dismissing her lawsuit claiming sole spousal status and threatening to exclude her name from the late highlife legend’s funeral brochure as “a favour, not an acknowledgment” of marriage.
In a scathing statement dated October 1, 2025, from Baba Jamal & Associates representing the family, they assert Serwaa’s marriage ended years ago under Akan custom when she presented traditional drinks acknowledging the dissolution, confirmed by Lumba himself.
“By the traditions of the Akans generally, and the Fosu Royal Family in particular, the presentation of drinks by a wife to the husband’s family, when accepted, effectively dissolves the marriage,” the lawyers wrote.
The family accuses Serwaa of deserting Lumba during his 15-year illness, refusing to relocate from Germany for his care, and initiating divorce proceedings in 2018. They recognize Priscilla Ofori Atta (Odo Broni) as the legitimate wife, having cohabited with Lumba for over 15 years and borne six children.
“If your client’s name appears in the funeral brochure, it will only be a favour from us and not an acknowledgment of her as a wife,” the statement declared.
The response follows Serwaa’s October 3, 2025, writ at Kumasi High Court, seeking declaration as Lumba’s sole spouse under their 2004 German marriage (valid per Section 1306 of the Bürgerliches Gesetzbuch prohibiting bigamy), an injunction halting the December 6, 2025, funeral at Baba Yara Stadium, and eviction of Odo Broni from Lumba’s East Legon home.
Serwaa, who shares four children with Lumba, claims marginalization since his July 26, 2025, death, learning of funeral plans via social media.
The family, via spokesperson Victor Kofi Owusu Boahene, insists the funeral proceeds as planned, with no court summons received, and under Akan tradition, multiple spouses can participate in rites.
They visited President Mahama and Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II for blessings before finalizing details.
Funeral coordinator Collins Owusu Amankwah rubbished the suit, warning Serwaa: “It is useless to fight over a dead body,” and affirming Odo Broni’s legitimacy.
The hearing is set for October 16, 2025, with Serwaa seeking property freeze and Odo Broni’s eviction.e6979079ee59 The family appealed for unity, promising a “dignified farewell” for Lumba, whose 30+ albums and hits like Aben Wo Ha defined highlife.
