Court Strikes Out Nyinahin Catholic SHS Assault Case; Parties Advised to Reconcile

The Toase District Court has struck out the assault case involving a teacher and a female student of Nyinahin Catholic Senior High School in the Ashanti Region.

The case attracted widespread public attention after a viral video showed the teacher, identified as Eric Afful, physically assaulting the student on campus.

In the video, the teacher was seen repeatedly hitting the student before lifting and throwing her to the ground, sparking public outrage and condemnation on social media.

The incident subsequently led to the arrest of the teacher and legal proceedings before the Toase District Court.

During the hearing, the court encouraged both parties and their families to settle the matter amicably through reconciliation and an out-of-court resolution.

Following the court proceedings, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), Professor Elvis Binney, appealed to the public and civil society organisations to refrain from making prejudicial comments about the teacher.

He also urged individuals to avoid issuing threats against Mr. Afful while efforts continue to peacefully resolve the matter.

The case has generated public debate about discipline in schools, student safety and appropriate conduct by teachers within educational institutions.
