Some cocoa farmers at Broni Nkwanta, Office No. 1 and its environs in the Prestea Huni Valley District have expressed frustration over the current producer price of cocoa and delays in the supply of fertiliser.
The farmers said the increase of GH¢63 in the cocoa price was unacceptable, especially as fertiliser meant for their farms had not arrived on time.
Sharing their ordeal, they indicated that the situation was making it increasingly difficult for them to continue cocoa farming.
They threatened to sell their farms to illegal miners, popularly known as galamseyers, if the government continues with what they described as its current attitude towards the sector.
The farmers called on the authorities to address their concerns and improve support for cocoa production in the area.
