Chairman Wontumi Pledges to Rebuild and Unite NPP Ahead of 2028 Elections

New Patriotic Party (NPP) National Chairman hopeful, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, has pledged to rebuild and unite the party as it prepares for the 2028 general elections.
Speaking during a live engagement with party delegates and stakeholders, the Ashanti Regional Chairman said his political journey within the NPP has been defined by resilience, hard work, and dedication to the grassroots.
“Trials have tested me, the NPP has trusted me, and I am here to deliver results,” he stated.
Chairman Wontumi reflected on his rise through the ranks of the party, noting that his leadership in the Ashanti Region has been sustained through three consecutive terms due to the unwavering support of grassroots members.
“I have never had the luxury of an easy election. Every battle has been hard fought. But those trials did not break me; they built me. The grassroots made me, and I owe them everything,” he said.
He emphasised that loyalty in politics should be demonstrated through actions rather than words, citing his support for the party’s leadership during previous elections.
“When the party chose Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, I put personal preference aside and worked for victory. That is what loyalty looks like — not in words, but in work,” he added.
According to him, the NPP’s current challenge is not a lack of competent individuals, but the need for stronger and more practical leadership capable of winning elections and strengthening party structures.
“We don’t need more polished English; we need a working chairman. The NPP has no shortage of elites and eloquent speakers. I am here to deliver results,” he stressed.
Outlining his vision for the party, Chairman Wontumi said his leadership would focus on unity, discipline, rebuilding grassroots structures, and empowering young activists ahead of the 2028 general elections.
He also reaffirmed his support for the party’s 2024 presidential candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, stating that the NPP must remain united behind him going forward.
Addressing ongoing legal matters involving him, Chairman Wontumi maintained that the issues do not affect his ability to serve the party.
“Let me address the elephant in the room. My legal challenges do not disqualify me from serving. I respect the law and believe in due process,” he said.
“History is full of leaders who were tried in the fire while serving their people. What matters is integrity and resilience. I have both,” he added.
He further indicated that his ambition to lead the party is rooted in service rather than personal gain, promising to remain accessible to party members across the country.
“I’m not asking to be served; I’m asking to serve. I will be a working chairman — the kind who sleeps in the constituencies and wakes up with the grassroots,” he stated.
Chairman Wontumi concluded by assuring party supporters that his leadership would prioritise unity and organisational strength as the NPP positions itself for victory in the 2028 elections.
