Burglar Gets Stuck in Bank Ceiling: Dramatic Arrest Ends Three-Day Crime Spree in Koforidua

A 33-year-old suspected thief, Ibrahim Muntawakiru, has been arrested in an embarrassing and dramatic way—trapped inside the reinforced ceiling of a rural bank in Koforidua, Eastern Region.
Police say the suspect had been on a three-day burglary rampage, breaking into several shops along the Legion Hall area in the Central Business District before finally hiding in the bank’s ceiling to avoid detection.
Sources reveal that Muntawakiru spent 11 days carefully watching his targets and planning the break-ins.
However, stepped-up police patrols in the area blocked his escape routes. He remained stuck in the tight ceiling space until the next morning when shop owners arrived and noticed signs of a break-in, leading to his discovery and arrest.
Officers recovered a hidden sack full of burglary tools and stolen cash from him, including:
- Two hacksaw blades
- One hammer
- One metal punch
- Two screwdrivers
- One crowbar
- Assorted keys
- One pair of pliers
- One keypad mobile phone
- One pair of scissors
- One grinding machine
- Two grinding wheels
- Three wooden hammer handles
- Cash amounting to GH¢9,133
The suspect is currently in police custody as investigations continue into the series of thefts. This unusual arrest has brought relief to local traders who had been worried about the recent break-ins.
