Bono Police Bust Robbery Rings in Sweeping Intelligence Operations, Seize Weapons and Stolen Vehicles

The Bono Regional Police Command has dismantled multiple criminal networks through targeted intelligence-led raids, arresting eight suspects linked to armed robberies, firearm trafficking, and cross-border theft of motorcycles to Côte d’Ivoire.
Announcing the breakthrough at a press conference in Sunyani, Regional Commander DCOP Joshua Coppson detailed operations across Berekum, Drobo, Nkaseim, Domfete, Ewiakrom, and nearby areas. The crackdown focused on gangs responsible for highway attacks and illicit arms trade.
Key arrests include mastermind Johnson Amponsah Kwame Diawuo, 47; Shadrach Owusu (alias Shark), 25; Kwafo Samuel, 30; Latif Mustapha (alias Star Boy), 28; Mosby Owusu, 20; Kofi Iddrisa, 45; Kwabena Agon Azubilla Akalotey, 18; and Baba Kumi Foster, 35.
Investigations revealed that on November 18, 2025, Amponsah led a five-man gang in an attempted robbery on the Berekum-Drobo Road, foiled by a swift police patrol. Interrogations of Samuel and Owusu yielded confessions implicating Amponsah in multiple heists, including incidents in Nkaseim, Ahafo Region. A raid on Amponsah’s Nyamennae hideout uncovered Indian hemp, motorcycle helmets, and machetes.
In a separate action, Latif Mustapha evaded capture initially by hiding in his ceiling at Domfete but was apprehended. A search recovered military camouflage, boots, a toy Glock pistol, taser, pepper spray, knives, talismans, laptops, and suspected drug-laced toffees. Mosby Owusu surrendered a loaded Hungarian Parabellum R-9 pistol, admitting he bought it from Mustapha for GH₵9,000.
To curb stolen vehicle smuggling, police nabbed Iddrisa and Foster at Ewiakrom, recovering three motorcycles and one tricycle bound for Côte d’Ivoire.
On December 2, 2025, Amponsah, Owusu, and Samuel appeared before Fiapre Circuit Court on conspiracy and attempted robbery charges, remanded until December 22. Mustapha and Mosby Owusu faced Sunyani District Court B for firearm trafficking, illegal possession, and unauthorized military gear, remanded to December 15. Iddrisa and Foster received police enquiry bail.
DCOP Coppson linked remandee Akalotey to a previously seized pistol. Authorities continue hunting fugitives and illicit weapons, urging public tips to sustain regional security gains.
