Bawku Naba Appeals to Nayiri to Accept Otumfuo-led Peace Mediation Outcome

The Bawku Naba and Overlord of the Kusaug Traditional Area, Naba Asigri Abugrago Azoka II, has appealed to the Nayiri of Mamprugu, Naa Mahami Bohagu Abdulai, to reconsider his rejection of the mediation outcome led by Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II in the long-standing Bawku chieftaincy conflict.

Speaking at a press conference in Bawku, the Bawku Naba urged the Nayiri to accept the mediation report in the interest of lasting peace and stability in Bawku and surrounding communities.

The appeal follows the Nayiri’s rejection of the Otumfuo-led peace process and his continued recognition of Alhaji Abagre Seidu as the legitimate Bawku Naba. The disagreement has contributed to ongoing tensions in Bawku and parts of the North East Region, including Walewale and Nasia, where security concerns remain.

Naba Azoka II expressed concern about the impact of the prolonged conflict on residents, noting that many continue to live under fear, insecurity, and restrictions on movement.

He said acceptance of the mediation outcome would create the conditions needed for peace and enable affected communities to rebuild their lives after years of instability.

The press conference marked the first public address by the Bawku Naba at his palace in about three years.

He called for an immediate end to hostilities and urged all parties involved to lay down their arms and embrace dialogue and reconciliation.

The traditional ruler also emphasized the need for unity among stakeholders, stressing that cooperation and peaceful coexistence remain essential to restoring normalcy and promoting development in Bawku and neighbouring areas.
