Bank of Ghana Warns Public Against Unlicensed Loan Providers

The Bank of Ghana has cautioned the public against dealing with unlicensed loan providers and advised financial institutions not to facilitate transactions for such entities.
In a public notice dated August 3, 2026, the central bank said it will continue to collaborate with relevant state institutions to identify, investigate, and take appropriate enforcement action against unlicensed operators in order to safeguard consumers and uphold the integrity and stability of the financial sector.
Banks, Specialised Deposit-Taking Institutions (SDIs), and Payment Service Providers (PSPs) were specifically cautioned against processing transactions on behalf of unlicensed loan providers.
Members of the public who become aware of such activities are encouraged to report them to the Bank of Ghana’s Fintech and Innovation Department at Bank Square, 42 Castle Road, Ridge, Accra.
