The Appointments Committee of Parliament is scheduled to vet Majority Leader and Chairman of the Business Committee, Mahama Ayariga, today, Tuesday, August 25, 2026, following his nomination by President John Dramani Mahama as Minister-designate for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs.
Mr Ayariga is one of three nominees expected before the committee as Parliament continues consideration of recent presidential nominations to key ministerial and judicial positions.
Also appearing before the committee is Dr Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, who has been nominated as Minister-designate for Environment, Science and Technology, alongside a nominee for appointment to the Supreme Court.
The timetable was outlined by Mr Ayariga during parliamentary proceedings on Monday, August 24.
Under the proposed schedule, the committee will consider the two ministerial nominees and one Supreme Court nominee today, before vetting two additional Supreme Court nominees on Wednesday, August 26.
Mr Ayariga’s vetting is expected to focus on his qualifications, experience, policy priorities and suitability for the Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs portfolio.
The exercise follows a request by Parliament’s Business Committee for a waiver of the Standing Orders requirement concerning the publication of presidential nominations. The waiver is intended to allow the Appointments Committee to proceed with the vetting schedule without being constrained by the usual publication requirement.
After the vetting process, reports on the nominees will be presented to the full House for consideration and approval in accordance with parliamentary procedures.
