Asokore Mampong Murder: Police Arrest Two Suspected Robbers Over Killing of 28-Year-Old Woman

Police in the Ashanti Region have arrested two suspected robbers in connection with the brutal killing of a 28-year-old woman during a robbery at Asokore Mampong, near Kumasi.

 

The deceased, identified as Silver Ngozi, was reportedly attacked and stabbed after her assailants robbed her of an iPhone 11 Pro. She later died from her injuries.

 

At a press briefing in Kumasi, the Ashanti Regional Police Commander, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Arthur Osei Akoto, disclosed that preliminary investigations indicate the suspects attacked the victim with a knife during the robbery, leading to her death.

 

The suspects have been identified as Farouk Iddris, aged 20, a motorbike mechanic and rider, and Salim Mohammed, aged 19, a motorbike mechanic and rickshaw rider. They were arrested on December 12, 2025, at about 9:00 p.m. during an intelligence-led operation conducted by a joint team from the regional police headquarters and the anti-robbery unit. The arrest took place at their hideout at Aboabo in Kumasi.

 

A search conducted in the room of Farouk Iddris led to the retrieval of a machete, knives and other offensive weapons. According to the police, the suspects admitted their involvement in the robbery during interrogation. Salim Mohammed, who was the pillion rider at the time of the incident, identified a zigzag-edged knife as the weapon used to stab the victim.

 

DCOP Akoto confirmed that the stolen iPhone 11 Pro has been retrieved and is being held as evidence. The suspects are currently in police custody, assisting with investigations, and are expected to be arraigned before court.

 

Three More Arrested in Separate Robbery Operations

 

In a related development, police have arrested three additional suspects believed to be behind a series of street robberies across several communities in Kumasi and its environs, including Asokore Mampong, KNUST, Kenyasi, Bosore, Duase, Antoa, Mayanka and Ayeduase.

 

The suspects are Abdul Fatawu, also known as “UN,” aged 22; Philip Nyarko, alias “Kawawa,” aged 24; and Samak Hadi, alias “Toronto,” aged 21.

 

Items retrieved from their hideouts at Aboabo included 59 iPhones, six Android phones, four tablets and five laptops. Police say all three suspects have confessed to the offences in their caution statements and are currently in custody to assist with ongoing investigations.

 

The Ashanti Regional Police Command has appealed to members of the public who may have been victims of these robberies to report to the police to aid investigations. DCOP Akoto assured residents of the command’s commitment to maintaining peace and security in the region and urged the public to continue providing timely and credible information to help combat crime
