Ashanti North Police Arrest Four Suspects in Major Narcotics Bust – 350 Slabs of Suspected Indian Hemp Seized

The Ashanti North Regional Police Command has recorded a significant breakthrough in its fight against narcotics trafficking, arresting four suspects and seizing 350 compressed slabs of substances suspected to be Indian hemp (cannabis).

In a statement signed by the Acting Public Relations Officer, ASP Emmanuel Agbodzi, the command revealed that on March 25, 2026, at approximately 10:13 a.m., a day patrol team from the Offinso District intercepted a blue-black Toyota Voxy vehicle with registration number AS 1747-25 at the outskirts of Offinso Old Town, near the Offin River.

A search of the vehicle uncovered four white sacks containing the 350 slabs of suspected narcotics. Additional items recovered included:

  • Two Ghana Cards
  • Three driver’s licences
  • One voter’s ID card
  • One DVLA vehicle registration certificate
  • One iPhone
  • Cash amounting to GH¢120

The occupants of the vehicle fled into a nearby bush upon noticing the police. Despite a pursuit, the officers were unable to apprehend them at the time. The vehicle and all seized items were conveyed to the Offinso Police Station for further investigation.

Arrests and Court Proceedings

Through intelligence-led operations, the following suspects were arrested on March 26, 2026:

  • Albert Nkrumah (alias Abode3), 21
  • Francis Owusu (alias Skin), 25
  • Gyimah Emmanuel (alias Corruption), 24
  • Theophilus Amoabeng (alias Kwadwo Amoabeng)

After a thorough identification parade, Albert Nkrumah and Francis Owusu were positively identified by the patrol team as part of the group that fled the scene on March 25.

On March 30, 2026, the two identified suspects were arraigned before the Offinso Circuit Court, presided over by Her Honour Christiana O. Bruce Ashirifie. They have been remanded into police custody and are scheduled to reappear on April 27, 2026.

A court order has also been secured directing the National Identification Authority (NIA), Electoral Commission (EC), and Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) to provide relevant details to aid the investigation.

The suspected narcotic substances will be forwarded to the Forensic Laboratory at CID Headquarters in Accra for analytical examination.

ASP Agbodzi assured the public of the command’s unwavering commitment to combating drug trafficking and ensuring community safety. He urged residents to provide credible information to help dismantle criminal networks in the region.

Investigations are ongoing to apprehend additional suspects linked to the case.
