Two BECE Candidates Killed in Tragic Road Crash in Upper West Region

Two candidates sitting for the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) have lost their lives following a fatal road accident in the Upper West Region.
The victims, Taufii Ibrahim and Abdul Khalid, were pupils of Charia Roman Catholic Junior High School.
According to reports by ’ , Rafiq Salam, the two students were travelling by motorcycle to join their colleagues at an examination centre in Wa when the crash occurred on Sunday.
The journey was necessary because their community does not have a designated examination centre, forcing candidates to relocate to Wa for the duration of the exams. Motorcycles are commonly used for transportation in the area.
Both students were rushed to a nearby health facility, where Taufii Ibrahim was pronounced dead on arrival. Abdul Khalid, who sustained critical injuries, sadly passed away the following day.
The tragic incident comes as more than 620,000 candidates across the country take part in the week-long BECE, which began on Monday, May 4.
The deaths have cast a shadow over the examination period, highlighting ongoing concerns about access and transportation challenges faced by students in some parts of the country.
