Asaase Radio Cape Coast Goes Off-Air, Lays Off Staff Due to Financial Challenges

Asaase Broadcasting Company (ABC), owned by Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko, has temporarily suspended operations of its Cape Coast radio station.
In a statement released on Monday, February 2, 2026, the company said the suspension takes effect in February to allow a full review of the station’s operations and financial performance.
“Transmission will resume on a date to be announced. We appreciate your understanding,” the statement read.
Prior to the suspension, all on-air staff were laid off effective January 31, 2026.
A letter signed by General Manager Kojo Mensah and cited by NYDJ Live explained that the decision followed a Board review of the station’s performance and finances. Management described the layoffs as a purely business decision.
Affected workers are to receive one month’s salary in lieu of notice, in compliance with labour laws.
The closure of the Cape Coast station marks a significant retrenchment for the Asaase network, which has positioned itself as a major player in Ghana’s private media landscape.
No further details have been provided on the timeline for resumption or the broader financial position of the company. The development has sparked discussions about sustainability challenges facing private radio stations outside major urban centres.
