Ahmed Suale Murder Suspect Discharged After A-G’s Advice

The Madina District Court has discharged Daniel Owusu Koranteng, the lead suspect in the 2019 murder of investigative journalist Ahmed Hussein-Suale, following a directive from the Attorney-General’s office to discontinue the case.
Koranteng, 35, an investigative journalist and Managing Director of ISPY Company, had been charged with abetment of crime and murder, accused of leading two unidentified assailants to Suale’s Madina residence on January 16, 2019, where the Tiger Eye PI reporter was fatally shot by motorbike-riding gunmen.
Prosecutor Nana Afua Bamfoa Bamfo informed Judge Susan Nyarkotey on October 14, 2025, that the A-G advised discontinuation, leading to Koranteng’s immediate discharge and case disposal.
Koranteng, arrested on March 19, 2025, and remanded on GH¢50,000 bail, had denied the charges, with his lawyer arguing insufficient evidence like call records and photo sales to Kennedy Agyapong.
The decision has sparked outrage from media freedom advocates, with the Media Foundation for West Africa (MFWA) and Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) decrying it as a setback in the fight against impunity.
MFWA’s statement on October 14 read, “This is a clarion call for a more targeted pursuit of justice for Ahmed Suale.”
GJA’s Angela Dwamena, a Suale colleague, expressed disappointment but welcomed the presumption of innocence, while Anas Aremeyaw Anas, Suale’s boss, reiterated calls for a thorough probe.
Suale, 30, was gunned down outside his Madina home on January 16, 2019, days after Anas’ “Number 12” exposé on football corruption implicated figures like Kennedy Agyapong, who publicly threatened Suale.
The case, stalled for over six years, drew IFJ and GJA calls for justice, with Koranteng’s March 19, 2025, arrest—based on call records and photos sold to Agyapong—ending in remand before the discharge.
