The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Ahafo Ano South West, Abubakar Sedik, has died after a short illness.
Mr Sedik reportedly died on Sunday, September 20, after returning to Mankranso from a stakeholder engagement meeting in Kumasi involving leaders of trader groups and the Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Mahama Ayariga.
The meeting focused on the completion of the Kejetia Phase Two project.
According to reports, Mr Sedik complained of body pains after returning from the meeting and was subsequently rushed to a hospital, where he died.
Political background
Before his appointment as DCE for Ahafo Ano South West, Mr Sedik was the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate for the constituency in the 2024 general elections.
He was among the candidates who challenged the parliamentary election results in court after the NDC maintained that its candidate had won the election, despite the New Patriotic Party (NPP) candidate, Elvis Dapaah, being declared the winner.
Recent controversy over 24-hour economy market
Mr Sedik was recently in the news following allegations by some NPP members that he had spearheaded an attempted demolition of a school facility at Mankranso to make way for the construction of a 24-hour economy market.
The allegation generated controversy, with the proposed market project becoming a subject of public discussion in the district.
Residents gather at NDC office
Following news of Mr Sedik’s death, NDC supporters and some residents have gathered at the party’s office in Mankranso to mourn the deceased DCE.
The gathering has attracted grief among party members and residents of the community as news of his death continues to spread.
