Afenyo-Markin Slams NDC as Failure, Urges Better Governance at NPP Conference

At the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) National Delegates Conference on July 19, 2025, at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium in Accra, Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin sharply criticized the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) for failing to fulfill campaign promises and worsening Ghanaians’ living conditions.
He highlighted new fuel levies driving up pump prices, accusing the NDC of betraying ordinary citizens. Afenyo-Markin also condemned the NDC’s ineffective response to illegal mining (galamsey), noting the president’s failure to declare a state of emergency despite calling it a national crisis.
He accused the NDC of attacking the judiciary, particularly targeting the Chief Justice, and scheming to divert Ghana’s mineral wealth to cronies. Referencing the violent Ablekuma North rerun on July 11, 2025, he alleged NDC-linked thugs attacked NPP candidates Nana Akua Afriyie and Hawa Koomson.
Afenyo-Markin concluded, “The NDC is a failure, Ghana deserves better,” rallying the over 5,600 delegates to focus on rebuilding the NPP for the 2028 elections through 59 proposed constitutional amendments.
