Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has announced that the ultramodern VIP Lounge project at the Accra International Airport is expected to be completed and handed over by the end of 2026.
Mr Ablakwa made the announcement after inspecting ongoing work on the project on Friday, September 4, 2026, during which he expressed satisfaction with the progress and quality of execution.
Project Funded Without Taxpayer Money
According to the Foreign Affairs Minister, the project is being delivered without taxpayer funding, with its financing structured as a corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative involving local Ghanaian businesses.
Under the arrangement, participating businesses provide funds directly to local contractors of their choice working on the VIP Lounge.
The Estate Bureau of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs supervises the project to ensure that construction work meets the required standards.
Ablakwa said the arrangement has allowed the project to progress without relying on public funds or conventional public procurement processes.
Ablakwa Hails Private Sector Collaboration
The Minister described the project as an example of how collaboration between government and local businesses can facilitate major infrastructure development without placing an additional financial burden on taxpayers.
“This project is a great symbol of what can be achieved without public funds and public procurement,” Ablakwa said.
He expressed confidence in the quality of work being undertaken and reiterated the government’s expectation that the facility would be completed and handed over by the end of 2026.
