Abronye Granted GH¢100,000 Bail by Accra High Court

The Accra High Court has granted bail to the Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye, in the sum of GH¢100,000 with two sureties.
The ruling follows his arrest and detention by the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) on May 13, 2026.
As part of the bail conditions, the court ordered the seizure of his travel documents, effectively preventing him from leaving the country while investigations continue.
Abronye is currently facing two charges — offensive conduct conducive to the breach of the peace and publication of false news.
During proceedings, counsel for Abronye, Daniel Amartey Addo, led by former Attorney-General Godfred Yeboah Dame, opposed the prosecution’s request for more time to respond to the bail application.
The defence argued that the Republic had already been served with the application on May 14, 2026.
However, Assistant State Attorney Grace Delali Tali told the court that although the application had been served, the prosecution required additional time to consult investigators and adequately prepare its response.
She maintained that the period between service and hearing amounted to only three clear days instead of six.
In its ruling, the court stated that it had considered both the prosecution’s request and the rights of the accused before granting bail.
The case has attracted significant political attention due to Abronye’s prominence within the NPP and his outspoken role in national political discourse.
