52-Year-Old Man Arrested with 37 Parcels of Suspected Narcotics in Tema

Police in Tema have intercepted 37 parcels of substances suspected to be narcotic drugs and arrested a 52-year-old man, identified as Ibrahim Saani, in connection with the seizure.

The suspect was apprehended on 25 October 2026 by the Zenu-Atadeka District Police Patrol Team while carrying the substances concealed in a “Ghana Must Go” bag.

According to the police, the exhibits were retrieved and conveyed to the station for further investigation. The suspected drugs have since been sent for forensic examination.

Preliminary investigations indicate that Saani, who resides at Akim Ayirebi in the Eastern Region, frequently visits the Ashaiman-New York and Washington areas, where he is suspected of distributing the substances.

The police said he allegedly disguised himself as a person with mental illness, sometimes wearing tattered clothing to avoid attracting suspicion while carrying out his activities.

He had reportedly been under police surveillance following concerns from community members about his alleged sale of suspected narcotic substances to young people in the area.

The police said intelligence gathered by the Zenu-Atadeka District Police had also pointed to the suspect’s alleged accomplices, as officers worked to identify and apprehend members of the suspected network.

During the operation, the suspect reportedly pleaded with the officers to settle the matter, but the patrol team refused.

He was expected to be put before court on 27 October 2026 to enable the police to continue investigations into the case.

The police have urged neighbourhood watch committees and other community groups to support efforts to combat crime by providing credible information to law enforcement agencies.

They also cautioned young people against drug use, warning that it could jeopardise their future and undermine their aspirations.

With the Christmas season approaching, the police further advised the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities, assuring residents of their commitment to maintaining security in the area.
