51 Kilometres Cleared on Accra-Kumasi Expressway Project – Ato Forson

The Minister of Finance, Cassiel Ato Forson, has announced significant progress on the proposed Accra-Kumasi Expressway, revealing that approximately 51 kilometres of the project corridor have already been cleared.

According to the Minister, the initial phase of the transformational road project is currently being undertaken by the Ghana Armed Forces under the directive of President John Dramani Mahama.

In a Facebook update shared on Thursday, May 28, 2026, Dr. Forson commended the military for what he described as exceptional professionalism and efficiency in executing the early stages of the project.

“An update on the phenomenal work being undertaken by the Ghana Armed Forces on President Mahama’s transformational Accra-Kumasi Expressway project. So far, about 51km of the entire stretch has been successfully cleared,” he stated.

The Finance Minister further disclosed that compensation payments for affected residents and property owners are expected to begin in June after assessments by the appropriate state agencies are completed.

He explained that the compensation process forms part of government’s commitment to ensuring fairness and proper resettlement arrangements for persons impacted by the construction works.

Dr. Forson described the expressway as one of Ghana’s most strategic infrastructure projects, expected to transform transportation, improve connectivity, and boost economic activity between Accra and Kumasi — two of the country’s busiest commercial centres.

“Steadily, deliberately, and with remarkable professionalism, the foundation is being laid for what will become one of Ghana’s most strategic and economically transformative corridors,” he noted.

The Accra-Kumasi Expressway is expected to ease traffic congestion, reduce travel time, improve road safety, and strengthen trade and economic integration along the major transport corridor.
