A 19-year-old robbery suspect has been arrested after a swift police response to a violent attack at Asabi in the Asokore Mampong Municipality of the Ashanti Region, where a man was allegedly robbed of his mobile phone and left unconscious with multiple machete wounds.
According to the Ashanti Regional Police Command, officers from the Asokore Mampong Night Patrol Team received a report at about 12:20am on Tuesday, 21st July 2026, that a man had been attacked near the Presbyterian Church at Asabi.
The patrol team immediately rushed to the scene, where the suspect allegedly fled upon spotting the officers. Police pursued him to an uncompleted building where he had gone into hiding and arrested him.
The suspect was identified as 19-year-old Ahmed Mustapha.
A search conducted on him led to the recovery of the victim’s stolen mobile phone and a machete, which police have retained as evidence for investigations.
The victim suffered machete wounds to the forehead, neck and left hand. He was rushed to the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology Hospital, where he was admitted for treatment.
Police said officers later visited the victim at about 5:30am the same day and found that he had regained consciousness. He was reported to be in a stable condition and remains under medical observation.
Ahmed Mustapha is currently in police custody assisting with investigations, while efforts continue to prepare the case for the next stage of the legal process.
