15km of Inner Roads Completed to Ease Traffic Ahead of Suame Interchange Construction
The Director-General of the Department of Urban Roads, James Oduro Amoo-Gottfried, has disclosed that 15 kilometres of inner roads within Suame and its surrounding areas have been completed to facilitate traffic diversion ahead of the construction of the Suame Interchange.
He said although some of the inner roads are yet to be fully completed, those already completed will help ease traffic congestion and provide alternative routes as construction of the interchange progresses.
Ing. Amoo-Gottfried made this known during a stakeholders’ engagement with traders ahead of the commencement of the first phase of the Suame Interchange project on Monday, August 10, 2026.
He appealed to the traders and other persons occupying areas within the road’s right-of-way to voluntarily vacate the affected areas to allow the project to proceed without delays.
“All those who are working within the right-of-way should move out. For those who are not within the right-of-way but have been affected by the road construction markings, the Assembly is working on your compensation,” he stated.
He urged the residents, traders and other stakeholders to support the project, stressing that their cooperation is crucial to ensuring the timely completion of the interchange.
Some of the stakeholders who attended the meeting told journalists that they are prepared to support the project and make way for the development.
“We already know that the place where we are operating belongs to the government. So, if it has become necessary for us to leave for a development project to take place, we will,” one of the traders assured.
Others appealed to the government and the authorities to provide alternative spaces where they could continue their businesses after vacating the affected areas.
According to them, such an arrangement would make it easier for them to relocate and cooperate fully with the project.
