Heavy Rainfall Floods Nsawam-Pokuase Road, Disrupting Commutes and Submerging Vehicles

Torrential rainfall overnight from Tuesday, August 5, to the early hours of Wednesday, August 6, 2025, has caused severe flooding along the Nsawam-Pokuase Road, transforming the vital highway into a waterlogged obstacle course.

The deluge left large sections of the road nearly impassable, plunging morning commuters into chaos as traffic ground to a halt and vehicles became stranded.

Photos captured by Channel One TV on Wednesday morning depict the extent of the flooding, showing cars partially submerged in murky water and frustrated drivers navigating through stagnant pools. Some vehicles were seen billowing vapor from overheated engines, while commuters waded through the floodwaters in an effort to reach their destinations.

The flooding has highlighted ongoing concerns about drainage infrastructure along the Nsawam-Pokuase corridor, a key route connecting Accra to surrounding areas. Social media posts on X echoed commuters’ frustrations, with users sharing images of the inundated road and calling for urgent government intervention to address recurring flood issues.

Authorities have yet to release an official statement on the situation or outline measures to clear the road, leaving residents and commuters bracing for further disruptions. This is a developing story, with updates expected as response efforts unfold
