Zambia Football Mourns: 7 Chavuma Town Council FC Players Killed in Bus Accident

A devastating bus accident claimed the lives of seven Chavuma Town Council FC players on Saturday, leaving the Zambian football community in shock and grief.

The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) expressed “deep shock” at the tragedy, which occurred while the squad was traveling to a third-tier league match in the country’s northwestern region.

FAZ president Andrew Kamanga stated, “We are in contact with the football, civil, and law enforcement authorities in the province to obtain full information.”

Condolences Pour In

Confederation of African Football (CAF) president Patrice Motsepe conveyed his deepest condolences:

“I convey my personal and CAF’s deepest condolences… May God comfort and console the families, friends, and colleagues of the deceased and the Football Association of Zambia.”

Artur de Almeida e Silva, head of the Council of Southern African Regional Football Associations, described the loss of young lives as “truly heartbreaking”:

“Football is a sport that unites us… In this awful moment, we join your grief and extend our heartfelt condolences to the families and friends who are mourning this enormous loss.”

Injuries and Aftermath

Twelve people were injured in the accident, with five receiving medical treatment in Lusaka. The identities of the dead and injured have not been released.
