Former Hearts of Oak Chief Executive Officer, Harry Zakour, has urged the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to consider former Black Stars midfielder Laryea Kingston for the vacant Black Stars head coach position.
Zakour’s call comes after Carlos Queiroz’s short-term contract with the Black Stars reportedly ended following unsuccessful negotiations over an extension.
Queiroz took over from Otto Addo ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup and guided Ghana to the knockout stage of the tournament for the first time since 2010.
However, Zakour believes the GFA should look at local coaching talent, particularly Kingston, who is currently coaching Uganda’s national teams.
“I don’t believe Carlos Queiroz must continue as Black Stars. He is old for this job,” Zakour said in an interview with Sporty FM.
He praised Kingston’s work in Uganda and argued that the former Ghana international deserves an opportunity to lead the senior national team.
“We have good coaches around like Laryea Kingston, but the problem is that he will be hired, and they will not pay him.”
Zakour added that Kingston’s achievements in Uganda demonstrate his coaching potential and should earn him serious consideration from the GFA.
Laryea Kingston previously coached Ghana’s Black Starlets before taking up his current role with Uganda’s national teams.
Meanwhile, the Black Stars are preparing for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, with the team expected to regroup in September for the start of the campaign.
