Woman Killed After Being Struck by Vehicle While Crossing at Kwashieman

A woman has tragically died after being hit by a vehicle while attempting to cross the road at Kwashieman early this morning, according to eyewitness accounts and initial reports from the scene.
The incident occurred when the traffic lights turned green for vehicles. Witnesses stated that the woman was already in the middle of the road when a speeding car struck her. The impact was severe and fatal, resulting in her immediate death at the location.
Her identity has not yet been publicly released pending notification of next of kin and formal identification procedures. It remains unclear at this stage whether the driver stopped at the scene, fled, or was detained by bystanders or arriving police.
The Ghana Police Service Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) has been notified and officers are at the scene conducting investigations. Preliminary inquiries are focused on:
- Determining the speed and manner of driving
- Reviewing any available CCTV footage from nearby traffic signals or businesses
- Obtaining statements from eyewitnesses
- Establishing whether the vehicle was mechanically sound and properly insured
The body has been conveyed to the morgue for preservation and autopsy. Road traffic accidents involving pedestrians remain a major public safety concern in urban areas of Accra, where high vehicle speeds, inadequate pedestrian infrastructure, and irregular traffic behaviour frequently contribute to fatalities.
Authorities have appealed to anyone with information — including dashcam footage or eyewitness accounts — to contact the nearest police station or the MTTD hotline to assist with the investigation.
