Woman Arrested in Tamale for Alleged Drug Possession as NACOC Cracks Down on Trafficking

The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC), working with a joint security task force, has arrested the owner of Suad Collections, a well-known clothing boutique in Tamale, on suspicion of dealing in narcotics. The operation in the Northern Regional capital uncovered 2,250 wraps of a substance believed to be cannabis, along with quantities of opioids.

NACOC officials described the raid as part of intensified efforts to curb the illegal drug trade in the region, where Tamale has increasingly become a transit hub for such activities. The unidentified suspect is in custody and cooperating with investigators, while the seized items have been forwarded for forensic analysis at the Ghana Standards Authority.

Authorities reaffirmed their dedication to dismantling drug networks nationwide, urging the public to report suspicious activities.

Related Bust at Kotoka International Airport

In a separate incident on September 16, NACOC apprehended a British national and two Ghanaian accomplices at Kotoka International Airport (KIA) for attempting to import 38 kilograms of compressed substances suspected to be cannabis. Security personnel intercepted two suitcases at the arrivals terminal, revealing 25 tightly wrapped slabs hidden in false compartments—consistent with international smuggling tactics.

The trio, believed to be part of an organized group, was detained after a routine inspection. The substances are undergoing laboratory testing, with preliminary probes pointing to a coordinated effort to bring the drugs into Ghana.

These arrests highlight NACOC’s proactive stance amid a surge in drug-related incidents at Ghana’s borders and key cities.
