Woman, 34, Found Dead Under Suspicious Circumstances in Somanya

Residents of Plau, a community in Somanya (Yilo Krobo Municipality, Eastern Region), are in shock following the discovery of a 34-year-old woman’s body at her family home under suspicious circumstances on February 3, 2026.

The deceased has been identified as Ama Kwaku Oyo.

According to preliminary information from the Somanya District Police Command, officers received a distress call around 10:00 p.m. from a neighbour reporting that a dead body had been dropped at the house.

Upon arrival, police confirmed the woman was unresponsive and rushed her to a nearby hospital, where she was pronounced dead on arrival.

Initial investigations indicate that Ama Kwaku Oyo had visited her boyfriend, identified as Tetteh Bi, earlier that day. The two reportedly prepared fufu together, although she did not eat any.

“She later went into the room, and when he followed, he found her lying still. We were also told she was known to drink heavily,” a police source told the Ghana News Agency.

Police further disclosed that the boyfriend allegedly placed the body in a tricycle (locally known as a “pragya”) and transported it to the woman’s family home before fleeing the area. His whereabouts remain unknown.

The exact cause of death has not yet been established.

“The body has been deposited at the Yilo Krobo District Hospital and will be transferred to the Police Hospital in Accra for autopsy,” the source added.

The case is under active investigation by the Somanya District Police Command. No arrests have been made as of the latest update.

The incident has raised concerns in the community, with residents calling for a thorough probe to establish what led to the woman’s death.
