The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has successfully repatriated veteran highlife musician Barosky to Ghana following concerns over his welfare after distressing footage of him in Manchester, United Kingdom, circulated on social media.
The footage generated widespread concern among Ghanaians and prompted Ghana’s High Commissioner to the UK, Sabah Zita Benson, to visit the musician in Manchester.
During the visit, Barosky expressed his willingness to return to Ghana.
Government Funds Repatriation
In a Facebook post on Tuesday, September 8, Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa confirmed that the musician had been safely brought back to Ghana.
“I can confirm that we have repatriated Barosky and he is safely back with us in Ghana,” Ablakwa said.
According to the Minister, the Ministry fully funded the repatriation as part of its consular responsibilities.
He added that the government is providing Barosky with psychosocial support and financial assistance to help him reintegrate into society.
Ablakwa Thanks Public for Raising Alarm
The Foreign Affairs Minister expressed appreciation to members of the public who drew attention to the musician’s situation, particularly broadcaster Nana Romeo.
“We are most grateful to our fellow citizens, particularly Nana Romeo, for bringing Barosky’s heart-wrenching plight in Manchester to our attention,” he said.
Mr Ablakwa also commended Ghana’s High Commission in the United Kingdom for its role in coordinating the repatriation and facilitating Barosky’s safe return.
The government’s support is expected to assist the veteran musician as he begins the process of settling back into life in Ghana.
