US Embassy in Accra Expands Visa Slots Ahead of 2026 FIFA World Cup

The United States Embassy in Accra has significantly increased its non-immigrant visa processing capacity, releasing thousands of additional appointments slots many available immediately to accommodate expected high demand from Ghanaian travelers planning to attend the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The World Cup, co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico, kicks off in June 2026. With Ghana’s Black Stars qualified for the expanded 48-team tournament, a large number of fans from Ghana and the West African sub-region are anticipated to seek U.S. visas to attend matches.

In a public statement released via its official channels, the Embassy urged prospective travelers to apply early: “Planning to travel to the United States for the 2026 World Cup? If you do not have a valid U.S. visa, we encourage you to apply early.”

The proactive expansion is designed to prevent the appointment backlogs and processing delays that have historically accompanied major international events. By making thousands of slots available well ahead of the tournament, the Embassy aims to ensure a smoother, more efficient application experience for legitimate travelers.

The Embassy also issued a strong security advisory, reminding applicants to schedule interviews only through official channels and warning against unauthorized third-party websites that often charge exorbitant fees or engage in fraudulent practices.

“Applicants are reminded to apply via the official U.S. visa appointment website,” the statement emphasized.

While securing an appointment is a crucial first step, the Embassy stressed that it does not guarantee visa approval. All applicants must successfully complete the interview process and meet standard U.S. non-immigrant visa requirements.

The move is widely seen as both a logistical necessity and a supportive gesture to promote tourism, sporting engagement, and cultural exchange ahead of the global showpiece.

Applicants are encouraged to visit the official U.S. visa appointment portal to check availability and begin the process without delay.
